The concept of the piece is based on the famous ‘touch me not’ plant, or in biological terms, the ‘mimosa pudica’. The plant is known for its tendency to close up instinctively when approached by animals and humans. The plant can be seen as a metaphorical representation of introverted human behaviour. When viewed from a distance, the plant’s LEDs colour are cooler, sadder and more underwhelming shades of green. This is a reflection of the unresponsive, uninterested and shelled up behaviour that introverts may outwardly display. These people are often unfairly labelled as ‘cold’ and ‘distant’ because of their public and apparent attitude. Befriending them, though, often reveals a completely hidden, different personality, that they only bring out with people they are comfortable with. However, when the leaf is slowly approached, the colours magnificently change to brighter, warmer tones of red; a representation of the secret passions, fire and personality that stay hidden within these people unless approached carefully.
