Tech Connect

This piece is based on how I am connected to the fast fashion industry. Mumbai’s Map is stitched on a piece of cloth. The map’s background is zoomed in on machinery parts that are used in textile factories. Mumbai’s textile industry is old and well-known, but most places have now shifted to fast fashion, which is cheaper and more practical for the ever-growing population. I connected red threads from my house in South Mumbai to popular areas where fast fashion is sold, where some used to be textile factories. For example, Phoenix Mills now boasts of the city’s most popular mall, Phoenix and Palladium. The yellow threads are lines that connect these areas to international buyers, where Mumbai exports its textile. With fast fashion being a more attractive and feasible option for many, the handicraft industry seems to be declining in the face of rapid technological advancements. However recently, for more sustainable and environmentally safer options, people have started investing in handmade clothes and traditional textile, which lasts much longer.
